Turtle Island Borneo

Booking for a trip to Turtle Island Borneo isn’t easy but crucial. Crystal Quest can be difficult to get in contact with and agents has a lot to say regarding booking. If you got the time and are not in a hurry, you can go to the jetty in the morning to see if there is anything vacant or perhaps just book for one of the upcoming days. But don’t count on going right away as there is only room for approximately 50-60 people a day.

If you got a later booking you could in the meanwhile visit some of the areas many attractions such as Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation center.

      Hej Lotte.
Dette er kun en informationsside. Kontakt venligst en af firmaerne ovenfor – Crystal Quest er nok bedst.

      God dag.

    Good day to you,

I would like to ask whether if you can kindly update the Crystal Quest’s information at this page by providing the link to their website, please? The official website of Crystal Quest is https://turtleisland.com.my. The information at their website may prove to be helpful for others.

Anyone who would like to request for a booking inquiry from them can do so through the booking inquiry form on their website. Alternatively, anyone can also email to them at info@turtleisland.com.my.

    Thank you.

    • admin says:

That is just perfect Azizan. The main reason why this website was started was due to lack on informations on-line. Especially about Crystal Quest which was not possible to reach before.

I’ve updated the informations provided and hope people will use it.

      Thank you.

  • Hi. I see that you don’t update your website too often. I know that writing posts is boring and time consuming.

But did you know that there is a tool that allows you to create new
articles using existing content (from article directories or other blogs from
your niche)? And it does it very well. The new posts
are unique and pass the copyscape test. You should try miftolo’s

HI, everyone, I have a plan to visit Borneo next year in March so how long in advance have to do my reservation? Would you give me a price for 2 adults and 3-years old toddler?

  • Karen says:

Hello! Is there an option for not spending a night on Turtle Island- but leaving after seeing the hatchlings?

    • Susan says:

      Hi Karen,

You will really need to spend the night there as they clear the beaches after 6pm and wait for the turtles to come up onto the beach this could be any time. They only let you see one of the turtles lay her eggs. This can be any time, we got the call at 9pm and you have to be ready to go when they say as you might miss it. They then collect the eggs and take them to the hatchery where you see them being put in the marked area. After this they take a the hatch-lings from the day and release them out to sea. It is truly a magical experience. You tend to leave the next morning. Hope this helps

    • Fiona Lee says:

Hi, we operate an island called Libaran Island and our resort name call Walai Penyu Resort on Libaran Island next to Selingan Island and we do have turtle sighting during the season, if you need more information.

      Thank you

    • admin says:

      Hi Kang Ja.
You’ll see the cost etc. under Information. Traveling alone is unfortunately a bit more expensive as there is no single rooms. So if you could hook up with someone that would be cheaper. Either in Sandakan or before hand.

If somebody is going on the same date please feel free to contact Kang Ja here :-)

  • Danielle says:

Hi, is the end of June a good time to see turles on the island?

    • admin says:

      Hi Danielle.
All year round is a good time because the two turtle species lay their eggs on Turtle Island year-round.

Hope you will have a great trip.

  • Natalie Yeung says:

Hello I am a single traveller’s and am interested I going to turtle island on May 18th.-19 2015. I have contacted several agent with regards to this tour and I keep being told I have to pay a single traveller’s fee. Is there a way around this if I can join an existing group. I am unable to contact crystal quest and I’m looking to join an existing tour to avoid paying single traveller’s surcharge.
Please help me as I would like to go o this trip but can not afford to pay almost double the price

    • admin says:

      Hi Natalie.
As I understand your question it is basically about joining up with somebody on the trip. I think the problem for the agents is not that your are traveling alone, which in it self shouldn’t cost extra, it is the fact that the rooms are double bed and you therefor have to pay for the whole room.

So what you need is too hook up with a fellow single traveler. Please feel free to make an announcement on this site. I recommend under “/booking”. Something like: I’m going on the… someone want to join to keep cost down? Or you could try Tripadviser.

Alternatively you could meet up personally on the jetty at the Crystal Quest and put up a note seeking fellow traveler. It’s more risky due to the possibility of sold out on the trip but it might be worth the try if you got the time.

      I hope you’ll find a solution.
      Have a great trip.

    • Holly says:

      Hi Natalie,
I am just planning a trip to Borneo too and had been looking into the turtle island tour. I havent quite set dates that I will be there exactly but the time I have is from 15th-21st May, so I could try to fit in with your plans to go on 18th May, if you havent already found a solution?

  • Anton says:

    Hi there,

Can you tell me how long it takes to get from the Crystal Quest’s jetty to the Sandakan airport? I am looking flying out to Mulu at 10.55am and wanted to know if I’d have enough time to make that flight after staying at Turtle Island.

1- What time the boat arrives back to Sandakan
2- How long it takes to get to the airport from the jetty

    Many thanks in advance

    • admin says:

      Hi Anton.
The boats arrive around 8 o’clock in the morning. The jetty is 9 km away from the airport so can’t see why it shouldn’t be time enough :-)

      Have a good trip.

  • Yann says:

Hello, I would like to visit the island in march, when you get there, is it possible to pay and stay one more night if you didnt see the turtles the night before ?

    • admin says:

      Hi Yann.
Normally it is not possible to stay more nights but try to contact one of the agents above. That being said, it is a fine time of the year to visit and I’m sure you are going to see turtles even though you’re only there for one night.
      Have a nice trip.

  • Jake says:

Hi all, I just returned from turtle island this morning with my girlfriend and we had a fantastic time. We struggled to find much useful info online so thought I’d try to help.

Our trip to Sabah was quite last minute so I only emailed a few days prior to wanting to visit turtle island. We tried all the email addresses mentioned on this website and others and eventually (within a few days) received a response from rowenapcm@gmail.com and (Mark) jumat@stwadventure.com. I received the emails whilst at Kuala Lumpur airport just before our flight to sandakan so I figured we’d leave it and check the situation when we got there before responding to the emails.

Rowena said there was no availability for our preferred day (the following day) and quoted us 1120RM (£205 / $340) for an overnight stay on the island followed by a trip the orangutan centre and rainforest discovery centre in sepilok the next day. We weren’t interested in the second day as we planned to do these activities separately ourselves.

Mark quoted us 700RM (£128 / $213) for the one day one night trip on the day that we wanted (which made me think Rowena’s response was a little strange).

We arrived in sandakan around 2pm and started to ask around as we wanted to leave the next morning. Our hostel quoted us 650RM and after asking 3-4 places on the high street we booked with Sandakan Hotspot for 610RM (£110 $185). If you are going to spend a day in sandakan before you go, I would suggest this is the best approach to booking (at least it worked out for us – might not have so much luck in high season). I felt a lot more comfortable deals I with people face to face rather than email.

The way the booking seems to work is that Crystal Quest run the show and are the only company controlling trips to the island and other travel agencies work as a third party and make a booking with them on your behalf. There is no way of booking accommodation or trips as an individual, you have to go through CQ.

There is no point in going if you don’t stay over night as you won’t really see anything. The laying of the eggs, their burying in the hatchery and the release of the youngsters all happens at night (for us it was roughly 9-10pm, depends when the first turtle arrives). I would also suggest there was no point in staying more than one night as you will just see exactly the same thing the next night.

I was a little worried that we were going in low season, as it happens this doesn’t matter as you only see the first turtle that arrives laying eggs and one batch of young released. So whether one turtle or 100 turtles land on the island on the night you are there you have roughly the same experience.

The island has a lovely beach, with a desert island feel – you can walk around the coast in around 20-30minutes. There was great snorkeling with amazing coral and to many species of fish to count. The accommodation was better than we expected – clean, air conditioned, private bathroom. The food was reasonable and we were never hungry. But you’re not paying your money for the food and accommodation, you’re paying for the incredible experience.

All in all, more expensive than we would normally like but we’re only going to visit Borneo once and this shouldn’t be missed.

Do you know if it is possible to volunteer on the island? I’ve been trying to find information, but I cannot seem to find anything other than general information about Turtle Island.

    • admin says:

      Sorry Jennie.
I don’t know and don’t even know who to contact. I would say that a great bet would be just to go to the jetty and ask Crystal Coast who is arranging the trips and have a office on the jetty. I’m sure if it is possible you will be able to persuade them to help you.
      Good luck.

  • db says:

Hi. I would like to make a booking to go to Turtle island for 2 adults and 2 kids (7 and 8). Ca you please advise how to do this. thanks.

    • admin says:

      Hi db.
I would advise you to contact Mark at jumat@stwadventure.com he can make a booking. Alternatively, depending on your time limitations, travel to Sandakan and just go to the Sabah Parks Jetty where the travel agency Crystal Quest has their office. They can tell you when a trip is possible and you can book. Afterwards you can relax in Sandakan until you can go. Take a trip to Sepilok etc. But, as I write, it depends on your time schedule because it can take some days before anything is available.
      Have nice trip.

  • Pedro says:

i travel with my wife and children with 2 years old. January is the season nesting? what is the best season to see the turtle nesting?

    • admin says:

      Hi Pedro.
The best time to go to Turtle Island is between July and October when the sea is calmer. But this shouldn’t keep you from going because there is so many turtles laying their eggs throughout the year that there will always be something to see. The gallery is taken in February and as you can see on this day 17 turtles landed on the island.

      Have a great trip.

  • BARBARA GANE says:

does anyone know if there is only one boat going to turtle island in the mornings as my flight does not land until 0745 and don’t know what time the ferry leaves. thanks for any info

    • admin says:

      Hi Barbara.
That is no problem. I’ve done it my self. As you can see here http://turtleislandborneo.com/information/ there is plenty of time to take a taxi from the airport. There is only 9 km so it won’t take long and the ferry doesn’t leave until 9 am.

If the price for a taxi have changed, I would be glad if you could reply here afterwards, so we can get it updated ;-)

  • Is there budget accommodation on the island of Selingan? We are coming to Sandakan 11/2/2014 – 17/2/2014 and would like to visit the Turtle Island Park. How to book the trip and accommodation, please?

    • admin says:

      Hi Soon Lee-Ling
Thank you for your reply. There is only one accommodation on Turtle Island and it can take around 50 people. The island is very small and the accommodation is run by the rangers from Turtle Islands Park. You can see pictures from the island and the accommodation in the gallery on this website.

Regarding booking please contact one of the emails listed above in the text.

Hope you will have a great trip.
